Revenue raised in each of the affiliate’s region will be granted within those regions.

AMARILLO and LUBBOCK – The West Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® board of directors recently voted on the affiliate’s granting policies, which includes funding community grants based on the amount of funds raised within each of the affiliate’s regions.

The Komen West Texas service area includes 60 counties in the Panhandle, Permian Basin, and South Plains regions after a merger in 2017 of the Komen Greater Amarillo affiliate and the Komen Lubbock Area affiliate, as well as an expansion into the Permian Basin region.

Komen West Texas awards community grants each fiscal year (April – March) that provide a variety of services that help Susan G. Komen’s collective goal of reducing deaths from breast cancer in the United States by 50% by 2026. Requests for applications have been distributed among the Panhandle and the South Plains, the two regions in which funds have been raised during this fiscal year. Applications will be evaluated by a committee comprised of individuals from both regions, with the committee funding grants for the two regions based on the amount of funds raised in those regions. During the next fiscal year, funds also will be raised in the Permian Basin region, which will fund grants servicing individuals in that region.

“We are proud of the growth and expanded geographic reach of our affiliate, and our emphasis on local service,” said board president Dr. Annette Sobel. “We also know each area is proud of the impact it has been making locally for more than two decades. The board unanimously agreed that keeping funds local to the communities in which the funds were raised helps retain the very local impact that makes Susan G. Komen stand out among the crowded nonprofit field.”
